If you're looking to buy a gift for a woman in your life, it's hard to go wrong with designer fragrances. Well, I shouldn't say it's hard to go wrong. It's perhaps less hard than buying her clothing. With designer fragrances, if you do just a little homework you can give her something she'll enjoy. And you don't have to worry about choosing a size that's far too small, or worse, one that's far too big.

It is important to choose designer fragrances that the women in your life will actually enjoy and be able to use. It won't do just to look at this list of top fragrance and choose one. You might get lucky. It's possible that she'll love the fact that you shopped for designer fragrances at all, and even if she's not wild about the scent, she'll know it's the thought that counts. But how much better to get a scent you know she's most likely to enjoy? Pay attention to what she wears and likes now, and go for designer scents that contain the same elements.

These top designer fragrances aren't cheap, but they all run about $75 or less, so you can give a great gift without going overboard and straining your budget too far.

Viva La Juicy by Juicy Couture is a relatively new fragrance. It was introduced in 2008 and became an instant hit. It didn't hurt that Juicy Couture was already a popular scent, and one that men bought the women in their lives quite often at Christmas time. Viva La Juicy, if you can't tell by the name, is a bit more bold and exciting than Juicy Couture. Fans of one scent are likely to enjoy the other. This has a berry, gardenia and honeysuckle scent, with caramel undertones that make it warm and sweet.

Top designer Donna Karan apparently wins with designer fragrances, too. Her Cashmere Mist is a very sensual scent. If the woman on your list likes scents that contain lilies, cedar and vanilla tones then this one might be for her. It's pretty light and not terribly intense, so it can actually be worn during the time without worry that it'll be overpowering.

You may only know of Dolce and Gabbana because of the recent movie Bruno and his love of their clothing. But Dolce and Gabbana also create designer fragrances that become popular the moment their released. And their new Light Blue is no exception. It's a very floral scent with jasmine, white rose and a little woody cedar, as well a bit of apple scent for fruitiness. If your lady likes these warm florals, this could be a good choice.

If she likes very complex and feminine perfumes, then a good choice might be Dior's J'adore. Berries, plum, musk and mandarin make a spicy, fruity scent that's feminine but not too sweet and airy.

When shopping for perfume, knowing the scents your giftee already loves can help the people at the perfume counter make recommendations for other top designer fragrances.
