The Lys (Lily) by Le Jardin Retrouvé Review

Continuing to sample Le Jardin Retrouvé’s scents passed on to me from cpf via LJR. The flower scents: Citron Poivré (Spicy Lemon), Eau de Tubéreuse (Tuberose), Jasmin (Jasmine), Verveine (Verbena), The Lys (Lily), and Chèvrefeuille (Honeysuckle). I will do the roses in a separate category.

The Lys (Lily):

Smooth notes, frankly feminine. Like all our perfumes, creating the LYS (LILY) was a return to the sources of perfumery with odours that are simple and natural.

What are the notes?

Oakmoss!

Top Notes: Bergamot and St. John's Wort
Heart notes: Lily
Base Notes: Vanilla and Oak Moss.

What is my impression?

This is a lovely lily, bright in the beginning, softening over time. It remains true to the scent of lily, being smooth and harmonious, not sharp.

Le Jardin Retrouvé’s scents go through a long maceration process, before they are bottled. This is evident in their ultimate smoothness and seamless blending of ingredients. And it is surely seen in this lily.

What does it remind me of?

I have a Sonoma Scent Studio lily fragrance, Incense Lily, which is similar to The Lys, but has the addition of incense.

Who can wear this?

This is a woman’s fragrance, unless you can carry off a rich floral.

My thoughts:

There is an art to creating a lily fragrance, so that the intensity of the flower’s scent comes through, without being jarring or headache inducing and overwhelming.

This scent is a glorious lily. If you like lily, you would likely love this one.

What is this fragrance like?

Is it modern or traditional? It is a classic traditional. At the same time, while it might have been something your grandmother could have worn, you could easily wear it today, and it would not be old-fashioned. You would feel cutting-edge.

Could you layer this?

Maybe!

What I like about it:

It is a true lily soliflore.

My take:

I give it a 4 out of 4. I love this rendition of lily!
