Floral perfume is the most popular type of perfume, making up half of all fragrances. It's hard to go wrong with a floral scent, as most people have at least one favorite that's chiefly flower-essence based. When you think of floral perfume or flowers in general, you think of romance and femininity. All floral perfume brands aren't created equal though, because some have green, woody undertones while others may be fruity, and other may have a touch of spice along with the flower scents.

One of the best floral perfume brands is easily Rose by Paul Smith. Roses are associated with romance, love, anniversaries and Valentine's Day, so this fragrance stays true to its namesake with a very romantic and rounded scent. Violets, magnolia and green tea with a hint of cedar combine with the rose oil scent to make this a really rich floral perfume. If you like the smell of fragrant roses and other flowers, you'll probably enjoy Rose.

True Rose by Woods of Windsor is another rose-scented floral perfume that's not as green as Rose but a little more exotic. This one contains musk and Iris to add interest. Yardley English Rose is one of the most well known floral perfume brands in the world and sure to be a hit with anyone that enjoys rose scented fragrances.

Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf is a wild and bold floral perfume. This one's actually an Eau de Parfum, so be sure to test it on a pulse point or inside your elbow and let it rest for at least a half an hour before judging the scent. This one is exotic with jasmine, orchid, bergamot and patchouli blending in with the spice of orange. It comes on strong at first but then mellows without losing its bold quality.

White Jasmine & Mint Cologne from Jo Malone isn't as intense or long-lasting as a perfume, but that's part of its appeal. It's very light, especially after you've had it on for an hour or so. Jasmine, always popular in floral perfume, combines with ylang ylang, bergamot, cardamom to produce a lovely well-rounded fragrance and then comes the surprise of peppermint. The mint gives it a refreshing quality that I think is rare in cologne, especially a floral.

Daisy by Marc Jacobs has a light floral scent, and though it's named after a flower it doesn't smell that flower. Instead, this floral perfume contains fruit and florals to make a fresh, springy combination. And it comes in a lovely bottle with a daisy cap. Daisy contains hints of strawberry, grapefruit, violet, gardenia, musk, vanilla, jasmine and wood tones.

DKNY's Be Delicious might be more accurately described as citrus, but I really appreciate the floral perfume overtones. With magnolia, tuberose, rose and violet on top of the grapefruit, apple and cucumber, this is a fun and fruity floral perfume that's perfect for a woman who likes this type of fruity scent.
