I have been using Taylor of Old Bond Street creams for about 4 years now and love the way they lather and shave! I usually use a brush but even just lathering up in the palm of my hand with my fingers this cream works wonderfully--far better than the mass-market gels and creams you buy at the grocery store.
This is, by far, my favorite scent Taylor offers, it makes my mornings so much more enjoyable! |
I concur, simply a fabulous product

This product whips up an amazing lather, and it smells excellent. It has that kind of mystical old fashioned barbershop type smell, clean, manly, sophisticated.
It also leaves the skin soft and supple without any of the burn that the minty type oils tend to give.
This product ends the quest for the best, yet paradoxically most economical, shaving lather I have found. This tub lasts forever...

| Gentlemen, this is an excellent product. A penny size drop in a lathering bowl, a couple of swirls with a shaving brush gives you a thick rich lather that helps the razor glide over your face. You get a great shave without irritation. |
nice lather, smooth shave

| This was the first type of soap/cream I've bought other than aerosol shaving creams and I'm never going back. The shave I get is just a lot less irritating. I've been using it for weeks and can barely tell I've used any. The package is a nice durable screw-top plastic that seals well in my bathroom. I just unscrew the lid, give my brush a whirl and about a minute later, I've got a nice rich lather. The smell is pleasant and not overpowering, though it may not be exactly my style. |
Humnnnn . . . Good

| A friend of mine who lived in the UK a long time recommended this to me and I am glad he did! A shave takes just a small amount of the soap but it lubricates incredibly well. I get the smoothest shave I ever have except for the full barbershop ritual. The sandalwood smell is soothing. Highly recommend this. |
Works great, smells great!

| You shave with this, and the whole house smells of sandalwood! The wife loves it, I love it! Provides lots of protection, is easy to whip into a nice lather - will buy again! Use with a badger brush - dip your saturated brush tips in the cream and you'll be amazed at the lather you get in your bowl - doesn't take much cream at all. This will last several months and is well worth the money. |
Great shaving experience

| Taylor of Old Bond Sandalwood Shaving Cream has quite simply made the task of shaving an enjoyable and anticipated event, something that I have NEVER experienced in my nearly 60 years. The quality of the lather is fanastic, so much so that I typically let it linger before begining to shave. The aroma is wonderful and always noticed by my lovely wife....also a new experince after 36 years of marriage. I suggest that the shaving cream should be used with a top quality brush ( I use a silver tipped badger) for maximum effect. You won't go wrong with Taylor's Shaving Cream and you might even enjoy your morning shave just a little more!!! |
Great Shaving Cream

| This is a wonderful shave cream. The sandalwood scent is really great and lasts quite long, well into the day. Inferior products are like shaving with wet watery soap where this cream creates a nice rich lather. Just so you know, when you open this up you're not looking at a bowl of hard soap, this is actually a tub of very creamy lotion. All you need to do is just dip the tip of your badger hair brush in the lotion (I like to wet my brush first with very hot water) and then lather it up in your other hand if you wish and then apply it to your face. A bit old fashioned routine maybe, but still great and pleasing way to shave. |

I started using a Safety Razor just over a year ago (Merkur Model 180 Long Handled Safety Razor). I loved the weight and the feel. I started with a boar hair brush from the local Wal-Mart. It just didn't feel "right".
I also was using the $1.00/package safety razors in my grocery aisle, results were horrible!! I thought maybe it was my learning curve since all my research and the testimonials stated this was THE way to shave, especially if you have sensitive skin (like me).
So, I got a Tweezerman Men's Shaving Brush (Badger Hair)...WOW what a difference!!! At the same time I splurged for the 100 Double Edge Shark Super Stainless Razor Blades here on Amazon after some research.
Well, I thought my world was going to change now that I had all the right equipment...it didn't.... :(
I was still using the crappy shave soap from the shave aisle in the grocery (Williams mug shaving soap - 1.7 oz), I felt like I was ripping my skin still....shaving was still not the joy I kept hearing about...
A couple weeks ago I ordered this product....THAT WAS IT!!! It wasn't just ONE of the elements..it was ALL the elements!!! This shave cream is FANTASTIC!!! I have NEVER had a more enjoyable shave...EVER (been shaving for 25 years now).
This cream, the brush, the blades and the razor all worked together in harmony to give my thick black stubble a mowing!! I felt as if my razor was a knife gliding across butter across my face...just beautiful!!! The scent is very nice as well! Reminds me of my barber shop or my Dad.
I have NEVER written a review before for any of the numerous products I've purchased through Amazon...I did now...that's how great an experience I had!! |

Just got this and also have Caswell Massey , taylor makes a great lather using only half a much as the Caswell Massey ,I also have
Truefitt & Hill which also makes a great lather but it cost twice as much. So after trying all three, I am going to stick with the taylor of old Bond Street. A little goes a long long way. I use it with the Caswell Massey
pre shave oil. The two work well together for me. |
Great product

This shaving cream lathers great and doesn't require much soap per use (a few dabs on your brush should be good enough for two passes).
The scent is earthy and reminds me slightly of incense. The fragrance will linger lightly after shaving so this could present a problem if you intend to use a different scented aftershave.

| This is really good soap, wifey loves the sandalwood scent. I have previously used cheapo shaving soaps available at local department stores, and they don't come close to comparing to this Taylor of Old Bond Street soap. I'd buy it again. |
A good, solid, heavy cream - comparison w/ proraso

I'm fairly new a the whole DE shaving thing, so when I got started I decided to not ony try several brands of blades, but sample several creams as well.
At this point I've tried two: The Proraso (in the squeeze tube) and the Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream (in a jar).
Both are much nicer than anything at the drug store. Both have their pros and cons.
The Proraso gives a nice, tingling sensation, and a fresh smell, but is runnier. That said, getting the proportions right for a lather are dead simple - an almond-sized dab in my shaving mug, wet the brush, and lather.
I marginally prefer the Taylor of Old, etc. for it's full, thick foam and the good lubrication, but it is a bit drier. It's also a bit harder to judge how much water to add for lathering as I prefer to pick up some cream on my brush and use that in my shaving mug with some water added.
As far as scents - the proraso wins out on this round. While I LIKE the sandalwood scent with its overtones of incense, etc., it is much stronger, and I can see where people would dislike it. I look forward to trying the eton college and other scents in the Taylor line. |
Excellent shaving cream!

Received my order a week or so ago now, and this is probably the best stuff I've used. The sandalwood scent is quite pleasing, neither too subtle nor overwhelming, and when a brush is used, this lathers up VERY well. I actually use the lid of the jar to lather up. I can't even tell I've used any, looking in the jar - a single jar ought to last me a very long time, I'd think.
Absolutely worth the expense. |

I've been using a safety razor for almost 6 months now, but I had always used the standard gel creams. With only 3 swirls around the dish with a wet shaving brush, I have a great shaving cream that far exceeds others.
And after letting a friend smell the jar, she closed her eyes, went silent, and finally said, "I'm getting really turned on right now." So, ladies love the smell of this stuff. |
Just try it!

| Take it from a woman, you gotta try it! Because of all the great reviews, I bought this for my husband. It really is FANTASTIC! Great, clean smell that is not too overwhelming. Provides a luxurious shave that makes wet-shaving worth the extra effort. It's hard to believe that this stuff is so cheap-even with daily use it will easily lasts 6 months. |
