Your local mall probably has at least one perfume outlet. You can find these stores sometimes in strip malls, kiosks and even online. But is it a good idea to shop at a perfume outlet, or are you getting an inferior product for the smaller price tag?

A perfume outlet like you might find in your local mall will generally carry authentic designer perfumes. So you will get the genuine article at a discounted price. If the discount is very deep, then you may want to really examine the box and the bottle before you hand over the cash. Just a quick check that everything looks in order and that the bottle is full should be enough.

You do take a bit of a risk in that you don't know how old the bottles are. The perfume outlet had to get these bottles at a deep discount in order to be able to mark them up high enough to sell them at a profit. Perfume that's more than about 4 years old does change in quality, so that's something to watch for when you're trying to get your favorites at a discount.

A perfume outlet that's online and specializes in cheap perfume should operate pretty much the same as a brick and mortar outlet. The biggest problem with purchasing this way is you can physically examine or see the product before you purchase. Just research the store a bit before handing over your credit card number. Search the perfume outlet's name online couple with the word scam, complaint or other similar words to see if there are any bad reports.

Do remember that the only people who typically post about a store are the ones with bad reports, so if you only find a small number it shouldn't be much of an issue. If they all say the same thing, however, you may want to shop at another perfume outlet.

Is there anything wrong with trying to save money on perfume? Absolutely not! With some bottles running around $100, even a small discount can make a big difference. No one knows what you've paid for your favorite fragrances, they only know how great you smell when wearing them. And no one knows what you've paid when you buy someone a great designer perfume or cologne as a gift, either.

If you know that someone on your gift list enjoys a certain perfume or cologne, you can be generous without breaking the banking by purchasing it at a perfume outlet. The biggest caveat with this approach is to not make your first purchase from an outlet one that's for a gift. Use a store you trust and have done business with before so you can make sure you'll be happy with your purchase, and that your gift recipient will be happy, too.

You don't want to present someone with their favorite designer fragrance only to find that the perfume outlet has sold you an imitation perfume or cheap designer knockoff.
