Perfume Books Worth Buying
July 20th, 2010 | Book Review
If you are serious about getting into the world of perfumes, then buying certain perfume books may prove to be useful for you. The following is a look at some of the perfume books that would be excellent additions to your collection whether you are collecting perfumes, collecting perfume bottles, or simply enjoying the smells that professionally manufactured perfumes have to offer you.
- Book: Perfume: The Ultimate Guide to the World's Finest Fragrances
- Author: Nigel Groom
- Format: Hardcover: 192 pages
- Publisher: Running Press Book Publishers
- ISBN: 0762406062
In this book you will find information on the history and story of perfume, ingredients used in perfumes and the processes used to create them, classifications and categories of perfume, the creation, development and manufacture of perfume, how to choose the right perfume, bottles and perfume designers, a directory of fine perfumes, a glossary of perfumery terms and information on further reading.
- Book: Essence and Alchemy: A Book of Perfume
- Author: Mandy Aftel
- Format: Hardcover: 272 pages
- Publisher: North Point Press
- ISBN: 0865475539
This is one of those perfume books that looks at perfumery in depth, as it is written by an aroma designer and writer named Mandy Aftel. It goes deep into the world's history of perfumes and perfumery, giving you a truly in depth look at all things fragrance including a great amount of information on selecting base notes, heart notes and chords, actually making a scent, and developing your own level of olfactory consciousness.
- Book: Perfume Bottles: A Collector's Guide
- Author: Madeleine Marsh
- Format: Paperback: 64 pages
- Publisher: Mitchell Beazley
- ISBN: 1840001623
This is a compact and colorful guide that is jam-packed with a lot of information for beginning perfume bottle collectors. This guide tells you where to get started, and it provides you with an introduction to the different ways that you can begin collecting perfume bottles, based on designers, makers and manufacturers. Here you will find more than one hundred colorful photographs that make this not only a useful guide, but also one that is quite visually appealing as well.
- Book: Perfume: The Art and Science of Scent
- Author: Cathy Newman
- Format: Hardcover: 176 pages
- Publisher: National Geographic
- ISBN: 0792273788
This book is an investigation into perfume as well as the perfume industry, but it originally began not as a perfume book, but as an article written for National Geographic magazine. As Newman delved deeper into this unique topic, she found herself wanting to write a book on the subject. Although there are many perfume books that are comprised of filler and useless information, this is certainly not one of them. This book never fails to completely capture the imagination of the reader from beginning to end.
