John Varvatos – Innovative Rock and Roll Designer with Inspirational Scents
January 18th, 2010 | Men's Fragrance, cologne, john varvatos
Most people have their signature scent. It’s either their first cologne given to them as a birthday present from a high school girlfriend or one that was borrowed from their father when they were young. Change is difficult. Once you find your preferred scent, it’s often scary to leave it behind with adulthood and move on. Alas, we all have to find our new voice and identity but that doesn’t mean that we have to leave everything behind as inspiration.
John Varvatos’ signature scents are not only sophisticated and casual; they are inspired by his love of Rock n’ Roll. He started his clothing line for men based on a rugged yet sophisticated lifestyle founded in the roots of music and pop culture and it flourished from there. Soon after his clothing line was developed, he added footwear, belts, and a fragrance to his repertoire. The John Varvatos ‘Classic’ line of cologne was his first debut as a professional perfumer. It became an instant hit and has been described as having a bold and relaxed feeling to the scent, one that has made Varvatos known as an expert in his field. ‘Vintage’ and ‘Artisan’ were the next fragrances to be released, still rooted in the original style of the ‘Classic’ and with Rock n’ Roll. His collection of fragrance options was increasing allowing for any man to find something that would suit his personality.
The most exciting news as well as most recent is his release of his newest scent, ‘Rock Volume One,’ which hit stores in June of 2009. Staying true to his upbringing and love of music, this is a limited edition fragrance again, inspired by upcoming musicians as well as some familiar ones. His advertisement campaign featured one of his favorite musicians and hero’s, Z Z Top. The images of the band wearing his clothing and hawking his newest scent can be seen on billboards and bus stop signage throughout cities like San Francisco and New York. Varvatos says that his love of Z Z Top and Rock n’ Roll music were the main reasons why he became interested in the fashion world and it’s clear that this ad campaign will be consistent with that ideal.
Most notably, because of his love for music and fashion, Varvatos has been a supporter of VH1’s Save the Music Foundation. The Foundation makes sure that all public high schools have access to instrumental musical instruction as a part of their curriculum. It also restores music programs in high schools where they have been cut due to budget issues. Because of his love of music and the importance of music education in schools, Varvatos has committed to donate one dollar for every sale of his newest ‘Rock Volume One’ fragrance to the VH1 Save the Music Foundation.
Not only are his fashion lines some of the most sought after, his fragrances coveted by many, a purchase of his cologne helps finance a great cause. Varvatos’ fragrances are available at most large, department stores as well as his flagship boutiques in San Francisco, New York, Malibu, West Hollywood and Las Vegas.
