How to Wear Cologne Perfume
May 28th, 2010 | Perfume, cologne
Have you ever stepped into an elevator with someone and suddenly got knocked out by her scent because it was so strong? Did you ever walk into a room and smell a strong perfume scent that seemed to permeate the entire area? If so you've encountered someone who is not wearing her cologne perfume properly. But did you realize that you can also wear too little of a fragrance as well? Both underscenting and overscenting are ways of improperly wearing cologne perfume.
What is the best way to wear cologne perfume? Well, the first thing to note is that cologne and perfume are two different types of scent and each has different rules to apply. Perfume is a stronger more concentrated scent while cologne is lighter and more diluted. By its very nature you need less perfume to create a nice scent on the body than you need if you use cologne. It's important to know which type of scent you're working with before you apply it.
The amount of scent that you apply is very important to the overall effect that it will have. Many people think that if a little is good a lot must be even better. This isn't the case. You need to know how to properly apply cologne perfume in order to give it the best fragrance on you.
Because perfume is more concentrated it tends to warm more over time after it's applied to the body. The scent then develops and expands. That's why what may not smell like a lot at the time you apply it can seem to overpower you later on. When applying perfume don't just spray it willy-nilly on your body. Instead concentrate on applying it to your pulse points. The main pulse points are located on your neck and wrists. The pulse points tend to warm more and thus will help to warm the scent as you wear it.
With perfume a little goes a long way. Don't just spray it all around. The best way to apply it is to spray some onto a cotton ball and then dab it onto the areas where you want to apply it. You'll find that many perfumes don't come with a spray for this very reason. Overscenting tends to occur with perfume because the scent develops and strengthens after you apply it. The trick is to apply less scent when using perfume.
Cologne is much less concentrated than perfume so you can spray it when you apply it. Cologne isn't as strong nor as long lasting. You may need to re-apply it several times throughout the day to keep your scent going. To apply cologne you should spray it on pulse point areas – the neck and the wrists. Avoid spraying it onto your hair and other areas of the body as well as on clothing.
What can you do if you apply too much cologne perfume? The key is to remove excess scent as quickly as possible. Once it has soaked into the skin it can be almost impossible to get it off – it will need to wear off. Soap and water may only remove a small portion of the scent. Try using makeup remover that will help break down the alcohol in the product. Avoid the urge to apply a different scent to cover it up as this will only make things worse.
