Eye shadow sets and color palettes are an attractive eye shadow choice for several reasons. You may, for example, desire to blend several closely related hues to achieve your desired effect. In this case, a set of three or four colors from one manufacturer can do the trick. The shades will be coordinated to help you achieve an overall look and to blend together well. Additionally, the pigment will all be in the same medium, whereas if you mix and match you would have to put up with different textures from each manufacturer.
