Fragrance Scent Primer

fragranceThe more that you know about fragrance scent, perfumes and how fragrances work, the better able you will be to choose the perfumes and fragrances that best meet your personal needs, tastes and styles. The following are a few of the most frequently asked questions on fragrance scent, that will help give you a better understanding of the unique hobby of collecting and enjoying perfume and cologne fragrances.

What are the differences between fragrances called perfumes, Eau de Parfum or EDP, Eau de Toilette or EDT and Eau de Cologne or EDC?

The primary difference between these different types of fragrance simply has to do with how the oils are concentrated in each of the compositions. These oils are known as juice in the fragrance world. The highest juice concentration can be found in perfume, or parfum. The second highest concentration is going to be found in the Eau de Toilette, the third highest concentration is going to be found in the Eau de Toilette, and finally the fourth highest concentration is going to be found in the Eau de Cologne.

In many cases, the Eau de Toilette and Eau de Cologne names are actually quite interchangeable, especially when it comes to fragrances intended for men. Aftershave has the smallest concentration of oils out of all of the fragrance products. The higher that the juice concentration is in a fragrance, the longer that the fragrance is going to last, which means less applications necessary to keep the scent throughout the day.

Why does it feel like some certain fragrances last a lot longer than others, while some do not last long at all?

People that are experiencing dry skin are going to be likely to find that their fragrances are holding for a shorter period of time in comparison to the people that have naturally oilier skin. The reason for this is because oily skin has a higher level of moisture, and this natural moisture is better at holding the fragrance in. The natural pH level, or acidity level, in our skin can vary significantly from one person to the next. The individual levels of pH that our skin has are going to determine how the different ingredients within the fragrance are going to react. What this means is that everybody is going to have a different reaction to different types of perfume depending on skin type.

Is it possible to make a scent last any longer than it already does?

Fragrance is going to naturally last longer on some people in comparison to others, simply as a result of the differences in our skin such as oily skin and dry skin, as well as the natural pH levels of our skin. In order to be able to achieve a much longer effect with your fragrance, you should attempt what is known as fragrance layering.
