SPF rating does not adequately measure protection from all the damaging radiation effects of light. SPF is only a determination of protection from one specific wavelength of ultraviolet radiation, the UVB (290nm - 320nm). Unfortunately, there is no currently approved standard to rate the quality of a sunscreen's UVA protective capabilities. UVA (320nm - 400nm) is the deeper penetrating wavelength that is more often associated with skin changes, such as wrinkling, pigmentation, and long term damage. The SPF rating system does not accurately or completely define a sunscreen's protective capabilities from harmful ultraviolet radiation, except the UVB wavelength. UVB creates a red, painful irritation first experienced during early sun exposure, but UVB is not the only ultraviolet wavelength damaging to the skin. In fact, UVB has only a minimal effect upon the deeper depth of skin. UVB and UVA radiation are both recognized as causing skin cancer, and SPF 30 protection is just not enough. Most of the physical photoblockers are naturally occurring metal compounds (iron, chromium, zinc, titanium, etc), although some, such as bismuth, are man-made. This white-pigment powder is widely used in cosmetics. Products containing large-particle titanium have a greater opacity, which means they have greater lightening or whitening qualities. Opaque titanium dioxide is highly reflective and strongly scatters all UV and visible rays. It also reflects much of the skin-damaging infrared waves, keeping skin cooler and reducing "heat" damage that causes unwanted photo-aging. To photo-stabilize titanium dioxide it must be micro-coated with a protectant, such as silicone or aluminum oxide. Since titanium dioxide spreads poorly on the skin, another way to inhibit its breakdown is to incorporate titanium dioxide with other blockers. To achieve cosmetic elegance and usefulness, microcoating the titanium dioxide assures a good, even application to the skin. A downside of large-particle titanium dioxide products is that they produce a white, opaque appearance on the skin when applied. However, submicronizing the titanium dioxide powder, as Fallene does, creates small particles that absorb visible light and protect the skin, but they're still invisible on the skin, so you're not covered in embarrassing white salve. Transparent (sub-micronized) titanium dioxide works by absorbing, reflecting and scattering UVB and some UVA rays. However, protection against UV, visible and infrared is significantly limited when submicronized titanium dioxide is the primary protectant. Zinc Oxide: Extends Photo-Protection
Zinc Oxide has been known and used topically for centuries as a skin protectant and wound-healing adjuvant and is also recognized as a mild antimicrobial agent. More than 50 years ago, zinc oxide was indicated as a block for ultraviolet light (UVB/UVA). It also reflects infrared from the skin, as does titanium dioxide. However, its ability to protect in the long UVA range (300nn - 400nm) is much higher than titanium dioxide. Zinc oxide absorbs, rather than scatters, most UVA, while titanium dioxide primarily scatters these wavelengths. Thus, formulated in combination with titanium dioxide, ultra-fine zinc oxide "closes the window" in the UVA range. Zinc oxide works to both complement titanium dioxide's protection and extend photo-protection to the skin where titanium dioxide is insufficient. The optimal particle size range for ultraviolet blocking zinc oxide (without blocking visible wavelengths) is approximately 80 to 150 nanometers (1,000 nanometers = 1 micron). Iron Oxides: Adds Color and Complements Primary UV Blocking Agents
Iron oxide is used in a wide array of cosmetics to provide cover-up color. Cosmetic iron oxides are manufactured to a high purity, desired color and particle size. Iron oxide pigments for cosmetic use are micronized powders. They are available in a number of shades and tones of red, yellow, black and brown. These cosmetic pigments, if incorporated at adequate concentration and properly dispersed, not only add color, but they also provide significant skin protection from multiple wavelengths of light. Ultra-submicronized iron oxides protect against visible light waves, but also add a little color to the finished product. This allows for the addition of higher levels of infrared protecting iron oxides, while retaining the cosmetic elegance and shade of the final preparation. Submicronized iron oxides block ultraviolet rays, which is a great complement to the primary UV blocking agents.

I am in my mid-30s and since I was a teenager I've used well over 20 brands of sunblock, all over SPF 15. Fallene Cotz is the ONLY sunblock I've used that does not irritate my skin, does not feel like a mask, does not cause me to sweat (my skin can breathe!), does not feel greasy, goes on smoothly, provides complete tanning prevention, and is affordable (unlike cosmetic counter sunblocks). I recently switched from Proactiv sunscreen SPF 20 to Cotz. Since Proactiv was developed by dermatologists, I assumed it would be ideal. Not quite. Proactiv left my face feeling like I had on a cellophane mask. It was greasy, and when I began to perspire, it melted. Yuck! Cotz does none of that and I get better tanning prevention! Cotz has a slight beige tint to it which helps since titanium dioxide is white. Just blend evenly over face and neck and forget about it!
My only complaint is that shipping directly from Fallene took over 4 weeks. I would recommend getting it from another shipper or order it early enough. |

I love this sunscreen. I have oily, acne-prone skin, and everything makes me breakout, so when my dermatologist recommended it, I was a little hesitant.
It does NOT cause any spots at all, and the zinc soothes any red spots or irritation I may have.
The light cream color (due to zinc) may not work for all skin colors, but if you continue to smooth it in, it will fade a bit. For me, it evens out my coloring if I dab a bit more on certain areas.
This sunscreen does not feel greasy and it does not melt.
I haven't been able to put sunscreen on the delicate skin around my eyes until I found COTZ; there is no burning at all on sensitive or delicate skin. |

Wonderful sun protection for anyone, for those of us with sensitive skin and those who want to avoid unnecessary chemicals that could cause problems in the future.
I've had skin rashes from allergies/sensitivities for years, and about four years ago I also developed eczema. I have extremely pale skin and need serious sun protection. In winter I simply wrap a scarf around my face whenever I am outside, but that is not practical in warm weather. I was a long-time user of a brand of sunscreen that went off the market two years ago. I have struggled to find another sunscreen/block that I could tolerate. Many burn when I put them on and most either caused or aggravated skin problems.
Not so with this fantastic product. I've been using it for three weeks and I love it. When I started using it, the skin on my face was in the worst shape ever and I was in agony. Not only did this product not irritate my skin, but it actually seemed to soothe it. I felt the difference immediately, and the redness, swelling, itching and burning disappeared within two days of use. In a few days, my skin was back to being soft and smooth. What a relief!
I also tried the Fallene Total Block Clear last summer, and that also seemed to work, although I was not having many skin problems at the time so the conditions were not as extreme. In other words, it did not irritate my skin, but whether it had the same soothing qualities, I cannot say. I would not hesitate to recommend either product to anyone.
I should add that neither Fallene product caused any acne-type problems, unlike a few other skin products I have tried. |

I was a bit nervous to apply this sunscreen b/c I grew up swimming on a team and our swim meets were outside - ALL DAY LONG. Therefore we always applied zinc oxide to our noses which looked like clown makeup but it was great in keeping our noses from burning and therefore peeling. This sunscreen contains the same zinc oxide but goes on smooth and blends in without leaving your skin white. I felt like the coverage was far superior to the other sunscreens I apply to myself and my children. Knowing that it won't breakdown as easy as the others when my kids are in and out of the pool all day long eases my mind.
It is quite pricey for the size tube you get (2.5 oz) but you really can't put a price on protecting your skin from the harmful sun rays! |

| i have melasma....you can get it from being pregnant (mask of pregnancy), overexposure to sun, age (age spots), or a combination there of. anyhow, i am treating this skin darkening with retin-a and hydroquinone which cannot allow your skin to be exposed to sun at all. enter COTZ......it is the perfect sunblock, and i've tried them all, from ones i've purchased from my dermatologist, to the zinc suggested by the lifeguard. this stuff isn't cheap.....but it's worth every penny to keep your skin safe from the sun. you canactually use your retin-a in the morning to get rid of your wrinkles if you have any, and your acne, and then put the COTZ on top. you won't get any discoloration or dark spots as if usng the retin-a alone. or i can use my Obagi system and use COTZ on top, and get full coverage while still lightening my skin......i'm thrilled. |

| Best sunblock I have tried. Great coverage and it is tinted so it doesn't make me look pasty white. I spend time outdoors on a daily basis and this is the only product I have used that has truly provided protection from the sun. And at this price point it is an absolute bargain compared to what I have paid at the doctor's office or the spa. |

For me personally - I got this sunscreen for one specific spot - my nose. Almost all other sunscreens (non-oily, made for the face, etc) still leave my nose a greasy mess. This felt like I was putting on an acne mask - in a good way. It was a fairly thick consistency and tinted enough to see I was covered. It felt like it soaked in and didn't leave me with a slick feeling (or a white nose).
For the rest of my family - it's not just a nose thing...
We used this on my daughter for an all-day, play outside kind of party. It went on easily and protected all day (through kiddie pools and sweat). My son also has a very short buzz cut and this protected his head on full sun beach days. It's hard to beat spray-on sunscreen for kids, but if you have sensitive skin and those don't work for you, this certainly protects well. |

Being the fair skinned red that I am, I have to watch how much sun exposure I get or I get burned badly.
First thing I noticed was that the stuff is almost a rust colored but rubs in completely invisible and doesn't feel greasy at all, it feels more like liquid baby powder as you rub it in. The other thing that I REALLY liked about it is that it's fragrancy free (I'm allergic to most fragrances), no smell whatsoever!
So to test how well it worked I slathered a bunch on my neck, face, arms and legs then headed outside to work on the car in full sun (100+ degrees even). After a few hours of sweating like crazy the stuff still seemed to be doing it's job and hadn't rubbed off.
After a full day of being outside in full sun I can honestly tell you that my neck, face, arms, and legs are not even the least bit burnt. Even with a higher SPF sunscreen like Banana Boat, my neck and face would get scorched after a few hours of being in the sun, but not with this stuff.
The only complaint I have is that is can stain light colored clothing, bit in all reality this is a very minor drawback.
This product deserves nothing less then five stars for how well it performs, it is just amazing and I will not use anything other then this for now on! I believe in the product wholeheartedly.
Pros:
Goes on smooth and isn't greasy.
Works better then any sunscreen I've tried before.
Doesn't wear off easily.
No perfumes, smells, or anything to cause irritations to the skin.
Cons:
Cost, but it works better then anything else out there.

| This is the best product for skin I have ever used. I have hyperpigmentation, sensitive skin and tend to break out from many products...this one is non greasy, gives an irridescent coverage with the slightest hint of color and even appears to even out skin tone! I use it every day year round even when I don't need the sun protection! It is a must try. For those of you who don't know, zinc has anti-inflammatory properties which nourish you skin too and this product is loaded with it! |

| As we all are aware UVA / UVB rays are damaging to our skin. I tried several different brands of sun protection that would work with my morning routine of moisturizer and sun less tan lotion. I needed a sun protection product that would go on evenly, absorb completely, and not " run " into my eyes later on during the day. I put my moisturizer on first, then Fallene Cortz SPF 58, and then a bronzer. I look as if I have a deep tan, I know I have UVB / UVA protection, and don't have to worry about the damaging effects of the sun. I wear Fallene Cortz SPF 58 on a daily basis, 7 days a week. If you do research on sun protection products, it is mandatory that titanium and zinc are included in the ingredients. I ask, why have all the other ingredients, when all you need is the ONLY ingredients in Fallene Cortz. |

| This is a wonderful product for those who are pale. (For reference I wear MAC's NW 15.) The titanium dioxide provides color and makes this into something of a tinted moisturizer. Some application tips: make sure skin is well exfoliated, and treat this as a foundation allowing it to set while occasionally smoothing. |

I was searching for a product that provided higher coverage for my very fair skin than what the 15spf provides, but without the eye irritation that the 30spfs you find in the stores big brandsnlike olay total effects eucerin daily moisturizer I read lots of reviews. The description that peaked my interest was the fact that it doesn't have any extra unnecessary chemicals in it. I like that it has 58 spf. It has a foundation kind of tint instead of the white that zinc products usually have, so I rarely use foundation. It also seems to reduce redness, an added benefit that also keeps me from having to wear the foundation.
I had a friend come into town on a sunny day & we spent the whole afternoon sitting outside at Starbucks. I didn't reapply, & still didn't get any sunburn.
$$$$ This is more than I usually spend but it also works at least twice as good. You should never skimp on sun care because sun damage is irreversible. I really research new products I buy. The best deal is here at Amazon with free supersaver shipping. I just bought a book also. One tip to save is use this product on your face & use one of those cheaper brands on your neck since your neck is away from your eyes.
To summarize...more expensive than store brands, best sun protection, no skin irritation (I put it on my eyelids also), reduces redness, has a skin tint. A tiny bit oily about the same as no moisturizer(I have t-zone combination skin). I hope this helps. I'm cheap, but it's worth paying double for this quality product. I paid $17.00 |

| Zinc based sunscreen is the only thing that blocks UV rays, all others are just lotion. I was told by my skin doctor to get this kind. So read the labels to make sure they have zinc in them before buying. I love the stuff. |

| Holy cow, and then some! I SUFFERED with painful, watery, sensitive eyes during swimming or sweating while working out. I tried EVERYTHING, but nothing worked. My girlfriend told me about COTZ, and I WAS BLOWN AWAY! No tears or sensitivity, just a fantastic sunscreen that won't let you burn or let those brown patches appear. It also has a faint tint to even out your complextion. I wear this DAILY and love it! |
