This is a perfume book review for the book known as Essence of Perfume, which was written by Roja Dove. The Essence of Perfume was printed by Black Dog Publishing in London in 2008. It is a hardcover book that features 271 unique pages.
The winter holidays are approaching quickly, and now it is time for us to discuss a book that is well worth checking out. It is a book about fragrance and perfume that is rare enough to combine knowledge and pleasure in equal parts. The Essence of Perfume book offers beautiful looks, teaming up with refreshing content and originality that is difficult to find in this day and age. This really is not a small accomplishment when you think about it, because most of the coffee table books out there that exist about fragrance and perfume are over done, and this book simply is not so.
The author, Roja Dove, did a really good job with this book, but when you try to cover a huge topic in a small book, there are bound to be the occasional issue and this book is certainly not without its minor flaws. For example, the author's strong suit does not seem to be speaking about the sense of smell. She does cover the topic pretty well, but it is brief, and you won't find all of the information that you're interested in, here. Luckily, there is an ample selection of other books that you can turn to in order to learn a lot about sense of smell.
What this book does feature is some truly stunning photo work of a variety of different bottles and perfumes that you would benefit from checking out sometime in your lifetime. You will find chapters about techniques in perfumery as well as materials, facets in different perfume compositions and fragrance pyramids. One of the strengths in the Essence of Perfume book is the methodology that is used to describe the facets in the composition of perfumes, because they have never been described in such detail before this book was released. They are not exactly the same as perfume notes, and so it is nice to see them explained in such an in depth manner to people that are not sure about them.
The sixth chapter in the book is completely dedicated to modern day perfumery and how it has evolved through the years. This book explores 120 years worth of perfumery and does it all in great depth and detail, offering plenty of information and resources for people that want to understand just how far perfumery has come. The Essence of Perfume book is an excellent tome worth having if you want to know more about the world of perfume and fragrance.
