If you'd like to buy discount designer perfume, whether online or at a perfume outlet store, you need to be aware of some common tricks to part you with your money for less than the product you were hoping for.
While most outlets and online stores are perfectly legitimate, you should be extra aware of any discount designer perfume deals that seem too good to be true. If someone's going to sell you a brand new bottle of Viva La Juicy that retails at $85 for only $5, something's probably wrong with that picture. Common sense and a bit of suspicion can go a long way in making sure you don't get ripped off.
First, fine a store that's reliable and that you can trust. Research them online by Googling their name with things like "fake," "imitation," and "scam." There will undoubtedly be a few naysayers--this is natural. But if many say similar things like how their perfume didn't smell like it was supposed to or how it turned out to be a copycat perfume, then you'll know to go elsewhere.
You can also read reviews on the discount designer perfume website itself. Very often people will review the purchases they've made. Finding all glowing reviews doesn't necessarily mean everything's on the up & up however. If you were a crook, would you let the negative reviews stay in place, or would you make up some really good ones and delete the negative as they came in? Right.
In a store, be sure to look at the box and make sure the bottle hasn't had any fragrance used from it. Smell it to make sure it's not filled with colored water. This is rare when it's a brick & mortar outlet, because they know you can easily come right back and confront them. Online, it does happen. Usually this problem results because you didn't read the auction description correctly. Many sellers put colored water in old bottles to sell them to bottle collectors, and not to perfume buffs.
When shopping on eBay and other auctions, do read the descriptions carefully to make sure you're getting an authentic brand. In outlet stores, examine the box and bottle carefully for this, too. Sometimes discount designer perfume brands aren't designer at all, but imitations. They design the package similarly, but misspell the name or add an accent, or something to distinguish to try to avoid a lawsuit. If you don't look carefully, you could be fooled.
Something else to watch for is the discount designer perfume tester. Testers are the bottles at the store that are designed for you to spritz on yourself to try out the scent. These are often sold at a slight discount, because there's no box and no lid. When you get them through a legitimate perfume outlet, you're getting a good deal. But some testers that are sold at auction were actually mostly used in a store, and instead of a full bottle of discount designer perfume, you're getting a dab of perfume and alcohol added to fill the bottle back up.
