Mariah Carey has one, so does Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Taylor, Jacqueline Smith, Michael Jordan, hell even David Beckham. Celebrity designers are turning to cologne and fragrance design at interesting times in their careers and people are buying them in the droves. Celebrities’ lives are followed through tabloids, the television, the movies and shows that they create, and now there is one more opportunity to feel closer to your favorite star, their personal scent.

Star-studded stars are collaborating with perfumers to create the fragrances that represent them in the most perfect ways. There is a hint of mandarin orange here, some nutmeg there, maybe even a little soymilk. Each celebrity asked to give insight into their favorite scents regardless of expertise is adding a little bit of their personal touch to each fragrance.

Everyone has their own preference as to how they should smell, however, there is a consensus that it is really based on body chemistry. These celebrities can create a scent that is called a perfume or cologne, but really, it’s all about how it smells on your body. It can be muskier for men or more flowery for women, but it honestly doesn’t really matter. More manly scents can work for women and visa versa; there is no science to this type of application and surprisingly, men can wear more traditionally women’s scents without much discernment as to which is which.

Typically, celebrity perfumers only create for a clientele associated with their own gender, David Beckham’s is for men, and Mariah Carey’s is for women. It wasn’t until recently that Kylie Minogue, singer and songwriter wished to create an affordable scent for men. She is one of the first if not the only celebrity to create something specifically dedicated to her male fans. Her scent is sophisticated and casual, geared towards the majority of her rock star fans. It combines a hint of lavender, spices, condensed milk and other ingredients that will be sure to make any man more desirable while wearing this scent.

On the flip side, if you are interested in a purely manly scent inspired by an athletic individual, try Jordan by Michael Jordan. This is one inspiring celebrity scent manufactured by Beverly Hills own, EXL of Bijan Fragrances. The scent has been around since 1996, however, it is testament to how much celebrity influence can sustain a corporation or product. The phrase has changed from, “I wanna be like Mike” to “I wanna smell like Mike.” Same with other celebrity inspired perfumes and fragrances, there is a desire from the common individual to embody the essence of their favorite celebrity, look like them, act like them, and now even smell like them.

It is certain that more lines will be forthcoming from preeminent celebs, musicians and artist the like with new lines of clothing, accessories, and fragrances for a distinguishing clientele to select from. Soon, this creative group of artists will be the select few influencing our choices regarding the proper choice in scents to trap that sexy single fashionista.
