Clean Perfume has been around since 2003. While there's an entire category of fragrances known as clean or fresh, Clean Perfume is an actual brand name. The scent is designed to bring to mind soap, fresh and clean scents, and a sense of being just out of the shower.
Clean Perfume combines scents like lime, orange, musk, geranium and grapefruit to create a fresh-scrubbed scent that's become popular. I'm generally not a fan of perfumes described as clean, but I do like this fragrance. An interesting twist on scents is the addiction of Clean Sweet Layer, another Clean Perfume that's designed to be combined with Clean perfume. The addiction of neroli and rose to this scent mixes well with the original and is interesting, more than anything.
Baby Girl Perfume is designed for the younger set, with ylang ylang, African violet, lavender and cinnamon as well as many other scents combined to create a more youthful fragrance. And Clean Ultimate is a bit warmer and steps a little away from that just-showered aroma. Jasmine, white rose and musk are some of the scents in this one that make it richer and a bit darker, if a clean perfume can be said to be dark.
Clean Perfume is worn by stars like Charlize Theron, Cameron Diaz and some other big names, which gave it an automatic sales boost. Not that it was doing poorly in the market--it's a popular fragrance. The availability of their Clean Perfume Oil helps with this popularity. It's considered an airier version of their other fragrances, with a slightly sweeter tone than most 'clean' scents.
The problem I have with most 'clean' scents is that they're too sharp. Remember the Irish Spring commercials where the sleepy-eyed guy or gal is in the shower soaping up, looking ready to collapse any second with fatigue? Then one whiff of that green-striped soap and the eyes pop open like someone just goosed them. That's what most clean perfume does to me. It's a bit of a shock. The clean scent usually is just too soapy or sharp, and not at all pleasant.
Once the top notes fade, they're not usually quite so bad but they still have a lingering quality that's a bit too soapy or deodorant like for my taste. Clean Perfume somehow avoids that, and gives all of the fresh scent without that eye-popping top note that makes you want to flinch back away from the smell.
I think it's really important to note that if you like Clean Perfume or any of the fragrances that are marketed as fresh and clean, you'll want to avoid deodorant soaps or heavily scented shower gels. Even pay attention to the lingering scent of your shampoo or hair conditioner. If you already emerge from the shower smelling well-scrubbed and fragrant, you're bound to overdo it by using a scent with similar qualities. That holds true, in fact, for any fragrance, not just Clean Perfume.
