These days everyone seems to be getting their hands into the perfume business. While it used to be that designer fragrance was all the rage (and it still is to a great extent) there seems to be a run on celebrity women's cologne. That's probably partly due to our obsession with celebrities. It seems that reality TV brings us one step closer to living the celebrity lifestyle. Women's cologne is the way to transport us there.

Almost every week there seems to be another celebrity coming out with a women's cologne. While the market should be saturated with cologne by now it seems there's always room for another. Especially if the celebrity has a popular following. It all started years ago – everyone probably remember the famous Liz Taylor perfume sensation in the 1980's. The trend has really taken off.

Take for example the latest celebrity women's cologne to hit the market – Avril Lavigne's Black Star perfume. Black Star, like most celebrity cologne and perfume, is designed to be an extension of the celeb's personality. So it is with Black Star – a snappy fragrance that has some mellow tones yet comes on a little strong. The packaging is appealing, too, in black and pink.

Almost every celebrity makes a foray into the women's cologne market. There are celebrities from singers to actors to athletes all with their own fragrance. And it doesn't stop there – many have produced an entire fragrance line. The trend seems to have no end in sight with new women's cologne coming out regularly even in a lowered economy.

Don't let these fragrances fool you, though. They are often the best and most interesting of women's cologne or perfume that you'll find. That's often because the celebrity wants to ensure that their name is associated in a good way with the perfume. They don't want to ruin their careers over a few bottles of cologne. They take the time to sample the scent themselves and even help in creating it.

In a scene from last season's "Keeping up With the Kardashians" Kim Kardashian is shown helping create her own fragrance – Dashing. She even trademarked the name a couple years earlier in preparation for the fragrance line. She did all that unbeknownst to her sibling sisters who took offense at her stealing their name for her scent. More publicity!

Of course publicity is all part of the wild life of celebrities. Sometimes starting their own fragrance line is simply an effort at getting their name in the headlines. Whatever the reason people do seem to like the fragrances that celebrities come up with. They range greatly from soft and sensuous to dark and spicy. Their scent needs to be in keeping with their celeb persona so you'll often find some pretty interesting scents. If you like the celebrity you may buy the women's cologne no matter what it smells like! You also may just want to be associated in some way with the celebrity and wearing the cologne is the way to do it. Celebrity colognes are here for the long term.
