Amouage Ubar Perfume for Women Review
July 19th, 2011 | Amouage, Perfume, Perfume Review, Pierre Dinand, Women's Perfume
Amouage Ubar is an ideal springtime perfume for women mainly because nothing exemplifies the idea of spring quite like the scent of lily of the valley. This scent is light an ethereal and it has just a tinge of something luscious and green. The Amouage Ubar perfume for women is loaded full of lily of the valley as well as sunny jasmine, and it is also grounded well using civet and sandalwood.
Amouage Ubar is a perfume for women, that was originally released in the year 1995, though it has been updated and re-released this year in 2009. When it was originally released, it was designed specifically to celebrate the Silver Jubilee year by Oman, and it was named following the lost Omani city known as Ubar, which was long believed to have been an important center for trade, as Omani and Ubar are both known for a historic frankincense trade. Ubar was re-discovered during 1992 thanks to satellite imagery. The original bottom for Amouage Ubar was designed by Pierre Dinand with a striking design that was well suited for perfume, but not necessarily for this particular perfume.
When Ubar was released this year in 2009, it came equipped with brand new packaging, a brand new concentration making it an Eau De Parfum rather than an Eau de Toilette, and a brand new and much higher price. The notes are reportedly the same, meaning that they are still bergamot, Bulgarian rose, Damascena rose, lemon, lily of the valley, vanilla, civet and sandalwood. Here is a basic look at what you're getting when it comes to Ubar:
Ubar begins with a touch of civet added to a citrus laden lily of the valley. It gives way just a little to soft floral, which begins with a hint of rose and then gradually transitions into a considerably more pronounced jasmine as the perfume dries on your skin. The base is truly lovely, with a nice and smooth sandalwood and just the smallest hint of vanilla. There is also a muted musk note, and possibly even just a touch of frankincense, which would make sense considering the origin of the perfume and the city that it was designed to pay homage to. The civet note is definitely noticeable but not in such a way that it is overdone.
Ubar is currently only available in the Eau De Parfum format tough in the past it was available as an Eau de Toilette. The floral notes that you detect in this one are not very long lasting, but the best part, the sandalwood base, can easily last you many hours. This is cheaper than some of the other Amouage scents out there, but it certainly isn't a bargain, especially not when you consider that the price has been lifted somewhat since the 2009 re-release.
